Campbell Brother
Malcolm and Duncan Campbell were raised on the beaches in Oxnard and found an early interest in the design and shaping of surfboards. Their father, a photojournalist for sailboard and car magazines, taught them to develop a language for their ideas. In the early 70’s they invented the tri-fin bonzer design surfboard. It worked well in the fast and hollow peaks of Silver Strand. Never tiring of experimentation, the brothers eventually came out with the 5-fin bonzer design.
Duncan’s Haleiwa Café, on the North Shore of Oahu, serves as a meeting point for some of the world’s top surfers. Over the years he’s been able to share his breakfast and surfboard designs with guys like Tom Curren, Derek Hynd, Jock Sutherland, Brad Gerlach, Donovan Frankenreiter, Joel Tudor, Rob Machado, The Malloy’s, Nathan Hedge, Mick Fanning, and Taylor Knox. Currently Duncan is working on opening a Bonzer shop adjacent to the Haleiwa Café, with a grand opening scheduled for fall/winter ’07.
