The Longs
Rusty and Greg grew up in the State Lifeguard Headquarters in San Clemente, California. Father, Steve, has been head lifeguard for 30 years. They are practically born and bred big wave surfers. Rusty’s namesake is Rusty Miller, a renowned big wave surfer and the U.S. surfing champion from 1965. Greg’s name stems from big wave pioneer and board maker, Greg Noll. When I met the two they were still in high school and had just gotten into surfing Todos Santos. I instantly recognized their desire for more travel and adventures. Ever since then they’ve been pursuing their dream of the “endless winter.” In our winter months they travel between Northern Hemisphere breaks Todos Santos, Cortes Banks, Mavericks, Oregon, Ireland, Madeira and places that I am not allowed to mention. In the summer months they escape the flatness, fog, and summertime blues of California. They migrate into the Southern Hemisphere- Chile, South Africa, Indonesia, and Australia are among the destinations that they frequent annually.
